Oct. 1 MIAA Divisional Top 10s

These are our statewide top 10 rankings for each division. Teams not ranked in our MIAA top 25 will have write-ups.


Division 1 1. Catholic Memorial (4-0) 2. St. John’s Prep (4-0) 3. Central Catholic (2-1) 4. Everett (3-1) 5. Xaverian (1-2) 6. Methuen (3-0) 7. Franklin (2-1) 8. BC High (1-2) — Just unable to close it out against a good Tewksbury team. 9. Andover (2-2) — Only loss to Massachusetts team to Franklin in a close game. 10. Attleboro (2-1) — This team has plenty of size and will be a problem in the South. Division 2 1. Mansfield (2-1) 2. King Philip (2-1) 3. Natick (4-0) 4. Barnstable (2-1) 5. North Andover (1-2) 6. Lincoln-Sudbury (2-1) — Huge showdown at Acton-Boxboro next. 7. Reading (2-1) — Survived tough test from Belmont. 8. Wellesley (4-0) — Impressive overtime win over a quality Newton North squad. 9. New Bedford (3-0) — Huge test with Barnstable coming in next. 10. Marshfield (2-2) — Navigating its independent schedule quite well.

Division 3 1. Springfield Central (1-2) 2. St. John's (S) (1-2) 3. Wachusett (3-0) 4. Doherty (3-0) 5. Tewksbury (2-1) 6. Shrewsbury (2-1) 7. Danvers (3-0) 8. Lynn English (2-1) — Difficult not to peek ahead to to Revere game in two weeks. 9. Milford (2-1) — Scarlet Hawks with a huge one against North Attleboro next. 10. Beverly (2-1) — Injuries piled up against Swampscott.

Division 4 1. Marblehead (3-0) 2. Nashoba (3-0) 3. Melrose (3-0) 4. Revere (3-0) — Big jump after a dominant win over Classical. 5. Wayland (3-0) — The North bracket will be brutal this season. 6. Tantasqua (2-1) — Emerging as Nashoba's main challenger right now. 7. Dracut (3-0) — Will not sneak up on anyone this year. 8. Milton (3-0) — This is looking like the best team in the South. 9. North Reading (4-0) — Sort of laying in the weeds. 10. Fitchburg (1-2) — That win over West Springfield looks better every week. Division 5 1. Holliston (3-0) 2. Canton (3-0) 3. Amherst (3-0) — What should not get overlooked is the line play here. 4. Swampscott (2-1) — Nice win over a very good Beverly team. 5. Dennis-Yarmouth (2-1) — Tough game coming with a much bigger school in Lawrence. 6. Foxboro (2-1) — Huge win over North Attleboro. 7. Scituate (1-2) — Would be a mistake to give up on this team. 8. Pentucket (3-0) — Cape Ann League is very interesting this year.

9. Lynnfield (3-0) — Still rolling and looking better each week. 10. Northbridge (2-1) — Has recovered nicely from opening loss to Blackstone Valley Tech. Division 6 1. Bishop Fenwick (4-0) 2. Rockland (4-0) — Should be favored to run the table in the regular season. 3. Stoneham (2-1) — Massive tilt with Melrose next. 4. Ashland (3-0) — Game with Medfield this week could go either way. 5. Cardinal Spellman (3-0) — South field fixing to be very competitive. 6. Tyngsboro (3-0) — Attention-grabbing win over Littleton. 7. Millbury (2-1) — Lost to a very good Leicester team.

8. Apponequet (3-0) — Lakers look like the class of a quality South Coast Conference.

9. Old Rochester (2-1) — Will learn a lot about the Bulldogs against Dighton-Rehoboth this week.

10. East Bridgewater (2-2) — Not going to give up on this team for losing to Rockland.

Division 7


1. Leicester (3-0) — One impressive win after another for this team.

2. Blackstone Valley RVT (2-1) — Should take care of Worcester Tech this week.

3. Abington (1-2) — Got the first win off the board with Norwell.

4. Mashpee (2-0) — Big one with No. 3 this weekend.

5. Cohasset (3-1) — Bye week before Mashpee game.

6. Wahconah (3-0) — Quality win over higher-division Longmeadow.

7. Assabet Valley (3-0) — Could make an argument for a higher placement here.

8. St. Mary's (2-1) — Big test with Fenwick this week.

9. South Hadley (3-0) — Can see this team getting to 5-0 heading into Minnechaug week.

10. West Boylston (2-1) — Interesting test with St. Bernard's next.


Division 8


1. West Bridgewater (3-0) — Will be curious to see how this team responds to Coyle this week.

2. St. Bernard's (2-1) — Schedule is brutal down the stretch.

3. Hoosac Valley (4-0) — This team just wears you down for four quarters.

4. Lynn Tech (3-1) — Wouldn't be surprised to see the Tigers win out until playoff time.

5. Millis (1-3) — Still competitive against the bigger TVL programs.

6. Randolph (2-2) — Loss to Middleboro to be expected. 7. Coyle & Cassidy (2-1) — No shame in losing to Mashpee. 8. Narragansett (1-2) — A one-point loss to St. Bernard's won't hurt this team here.

9. Blue Hills (3-0) — Worth getting excited over this week's Old Colony game.

10. Old Colony (3-0) — See above.

Before we get into it, a bit of an explanation. Ranking teams this season was exceedingly difficult, and why we did not put any out until now. The issue was the different number of games for many of t
