Oct. 22 MIAA Divisional Top 10s

These are our statewide top 10 rankings for each division. Teams not ranked in our MIAA top 25 will have write-ups.


Division 1 1. Catholic Memorial (7-0) 2. St. John’s Prep (6-1) 3. Central Catholic (5-1) 4. Everett (6-1) 5. Franklin (4-2) — Panthers with an impressive thrashing of Attleboro. 6. BC High (3-3) — Tough sledding against that Prep defense. 7. Brockton (3-3) — Devonte Medley growing into one of the best young quarterbacks in the area. 8. Andover (4-2) — Could be a thorn in someone's side in the North bracket. 9. Acton-Boxboro (4-2) — Has rebounded well from early setbacks. 10. Framingham (3-3) — Has played a very tough schedule. Division 2 1. Mansfield (5-1) 2. Natick (6-0) 3. King Philip (5-1) 4. New Bedford (6-0) 5. Lincoln-Sudbury (5-1) 6. Reading (5-1) 7. Wellesley (5-1) 8. Barnstable (4-2) — Wore down Dennis-Yarmouth. 9. North Andover (3-3) — Will be right there with L-S and Reading in the North. 10. Marshfield (5-2) — Rams a sleeper in a loaded South. Division 3 1. Springfield Central (4-2) 2. St. John's (S) (4-2) 3. Wachusett (6-0) 4. Doherty (6-0) 5. Tewksbury (5-1) 6. Danvers (6-0) 7. Lynn English (4-2) 8. Duxbury (5-2) 9. Stoughton (5-1) 10. Minnechaug (6-0) — Nice win over a good South Hadley team. Division 4 1. Melrose (6-0) 2. Revere (6-0) 3. Marblehead (5-1) 4. Nashoba (5-1) 5. Milton (6-0) — Showed it can win the close ones this week. 6. Tantasqua (4-2) — Not going to drop this team for losing to a squad like Doherty. 7. North Reading (6-0) — Still flying under the radar somehow. 8. Wayland (5-1) — In most years, would be the favorite or close to it. 9. Fitchburg (4-2) — Huge one with Nashoba next. 10. Plymouth South (5-1) — One of the best defenses in the division. Division 5 1. Canton (6-0) 2. Holliston (5-1) —Still plenty of time to regroup from Ashland loss. 3. Amherst (6-0) — Trip to South Hadley will reveal some more about this team. 4. Swampscott (4-2) — Two losses by a combined four points to two of the best teams in Div. 3. 5. Dennis-Yarmouth (4-2) — Outsized by Barnstable. 6. Pentucket (5-1) — Not going to drop this team for losing to a bigger school in Masconomet. 7. Foxboro (3-3) — The team in the South no one wants to play. 8. Lynnfield (5-1) — Big offensive numbers each week. 9. West Springfield (4-2) — This team will score on just about anyone. 10. Bedford (6-0) — Bucs one of the quietest unbeaten teams in the state. Division 6 1. Rockland (7-0) — Moves into the top spot in a big week for the South. 2. Ashland (6-0) — Could make an argument for No. 1 with the Holliston win. 3. Cardinal Spellman (6-0) — See above, but replace Holliston with Fenwick. 4. Bishop Fenwick (5-1) — Still very much a threat to win the whole thing. 5. Stoneham (4-2) — Getting better every week. 6. Tyngsboro (6-0) — Continues to impress. 7. Millbury (5-1) — Interesting test with Oxford next.

8. Old Rochester (5-1) — Capable of beating any team ahead of it on this list.

9. Shawsheen Tech (7-0) — Will not be the favorite in the North, but not an east out, either.

10. Littleton (4-2) — Very similar to Stoneham in a lot of ways.

Division 7


1. Leicester (6-0) — The Central will again be as difficult as last season.

2. Blackstone Valley RVT (5-1) — Littleton game will be a physical battle.

3. Abington (4-2) — Huge one with Cohasset.

4. Cohasset (5-1) — Can make a statement this week.

5. Mashpee (3-2) — Interesting one with St. Mary's next.

6. Assabet Valley (6-0) — Facing a Nipmuc team next week that is still dangerous.

7. South Hadley (5-1) — No shame in losing to Minnechaug like that.

8. West Boylston (5-1) — Has done well against a difficult schedule.

9. Wahconah (5-1) — Massive one with West Springfield next.

10. Case (6-0) — Has a decent shot of making a real run at the South title.


Division 8


1. West Bridgewater (6-0) — Should be spotless still into the South playoffs.

2. St. Bernard's (3-3) — Losses are to three of the best lower-division teams in the state.

3. Hoosac Valley (7-0) — Nice win over an improving Chicopee squad.

4. Lynn Tech (5-1) — Game with Northeast will be tough.

5. Old Colony (6-0) — South will be a war this year.

6. Narragansett (3-3) — See St. Bernard's.

7. Monty Tech (4-2) — Rolled past Worcester Tech.

8. Tech Boston (4-2) — Well-earned week off.

9. KIPP Academy (4-2) — Running game can be a handful.

10. Tri-County (4-2) — Interesting game with a tough Southeastern team next.

Before we get into it, a bit of an explanation. Ranking teams this season was exceedingly difficult, and why we did not put any out until now. The issue was the different number of games for many of t
