Oct. 8 MIAA Divisional Top 10s

These are our statewide top 10 rankings for each division. Teams not ranked in our MIAA top 25 will have write-ups.


Division 1 1. Catholic Memorial (5-0) 2. St. John’s Prep (5-0) 3. Central Catholic (3-1) 4. Everett (4-1) 5. Methuen (4-0) 6. Franklin (3-1) 7. BC High (2-2) — Trip to Connecticut was a successful one. 8. Attleboro (3-1) — Defense playing at a high level. 9. Lowell (2-2) — Speed everywhere here. 10. Xaverian (1-3) — A 1-3 vs. 1-3 game against Brockton? Say it ain't so! Division 2 1. Mansfield (3-1) 2. Natick (5-0) 3. King Philip (3-1) 4. New Bedford (4-0) 5. Lincoln-Sudbury (3-1) — Big-time win over Acton-Boxboro. 6. Reading (3-1) — Rockets had the defense working against Woburn. 7. Wellesley (4-1) — Raiders nearly pulled off the upset in nailbiter against Natick. 8. Barnstable (2-2) — Just couldn't make the big play against New Bedford. 9. North Andover (1-3) — Not ready to give up on this team yet. 10. Marshfield (3-2) — Coach Chris Arouca has done a fantastic job here. Division 3 1. Springfield Central (2-2) 2. St. John's (S) (2-2) 3. Wachusett (4-0) 4. Doherty (5-0) 5. Tewksbury (3-1) 6. Danvers (4-0) 7. Lynn English (3-1) 8. Milford (3-1) 9. Minnechaug (4-0) — This offense can do a little bit of everything. 10. Beverly (2-2) — Still feel this team is dangerous. Division 4 1. Marblehead (4-0) 2. Nashoba (4-0) 3. Melrose (4-0) 4. Revere (4-0) 5. Milton (4-0) — Wildcats just keep winning. 6. Tantasqua (3-1) — Should be favored against Marlboro. 7. North Reading (5-0) — North bracket will be one of the toughest in the state. 8. Wayland (3-1) — Came up just short against Concord-Carlisle. 9. Dracut (3-1) — Could not stop Billerica's ground game. 10. Fitchburg (2-2) — Gets an Algonquin team that is riding high next. Division 5 1. Holliston (4-0) 2. Canton (4-0) 3. Amherst (4-0) — Allowed just 22 points in four games. 4. Swampscott (4-1) — Huge showdown with Danvers next. 5. Dennis-Yarmouth (4-1) — Intriguing game with Falmouth this week. 6. Foxboro (2-2) — Not going to drop this team for losing to Canton. 7. Pentucket (4-0) — Emerging as Swampscott's biggest challenger. 8. Scituate (2-2) — Hanover game will be telling. 9. Lynnfield (3-1) — Pentucket held this explosive offense somewhat in check. 10. Bedford (4-0) — Will most likely run the table in the regular season. Division 6 1. Bishop Fenwick (5-0) 2. Rockland (5-0) — Continues to impress. 3. Stoneham (2-2) — Gave Melrose everything it could handle. 4. Ashland (4-0) — Try not to peek ahead to Holliston game in a couple weeks. 5. Cardinal Spellman (4-0) — See above, but with Bishop Fenwick. 6. Tyngsboro (4-0) — Narragansett should provide a tough challenge. 7. Millbury (3-1) — Strong win over Northbridge.

8. Apponequet (4-0) — Tough game with Dighton-Rehoboth next.

9. Old Rochester (3-1) — No easy ones the rest of the way.

10. Littleton (3-1) — West Boylston game will be a nice take.

Division 7


1. Leicester (4-0) — Has lived up to preseason billing and then some.

2. Blackstone Valley RVT (3-1) — Monty Tech game one of the best of the weekend.

3. Abington (2-2) — Never easy to beat a team like Mashpee.

4. Mashpee (2-1) — Cohasset game big in terms of South seeding implications.

5. Cohasset (3-1) — See above.

6. Wahconah (4-0) — Game at Northampton will tell us a lot about both teams.

7. Assabet Valley (4-0) — Slate will stiffen toward the end.

8. South Hadley (4-0) — Try not to look ahead to Minnechaug game in a couple weeks.

9. West Boylston (3-1) —Nice win over St. Bernard's.

10. Greater Lawrence (3-2) — Probably too late an addition here.


Division 8


1. West Bridgewater (4-0) — Looking like the best team more and more each week.

2. St. Bernard's (2-2) — Playing just a brutal schedule with Nipmuc next.

3. Hoosac Valley (5-0) — Don't see this team taking a regular season loss.

4. Lynn Tech (3-1) — See above.

5. Old Colony (4-0) — Massive win over Blue Hills.

6. Randolph (2-2) — Chance to bounce back after bye against a good Norwell team.

7. Narragansett (2-2) — Slipped by a quality Oxford squad by one point.

8. Blue Hills (3-1) — Down, but not out here.

9. Monty Tech (3-1) — Will be right in the middle of the sectional chase.

10. Lunenburg (3-1) — Final four games are all 50-50 contests.
